Deer Stand Disaster #1!

This was actually the SECOND disaster for this stand. First, a limb from a pin-oak tree about twelve inches in diameter fell on it from about sixty feet high! It crushed the stand all the way to the ground. I had sat this stand a dozen times before this happened. If anyone had been in the stand when this happened it would have killed them for sure.

The limb that hit the stand wasn't rotten, it just split off the tree. It was actually a good fifteen feet to one side of the stand, but it swung to the side as it broke off (or so it would appear).

Then, during the following off-season, an entire pin-oak tree nearby fell directly on the stand!

The sliding windows and door in this stand were slow to open because they easily bind AND they make more noise than thunder. This was a good learning experience.
